'Indiana Jones 5' News, Plot: Harrison Ford Set To Return; Shia LaBeouf Reprises As Mutt Williams?
Lucas Film confirmed last month that "Indiana Jones 5" is indeed happening.
Written by "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" writer David Koepp and directed by Steven Spielberg, the film will see the return of Harrison Ford as a crusading archeologist.
While no specific details about the upcoming film has been disclosed yet, film producer Frank Marshall revealed in a recent interview that "Indiana Jones 5" will pick up where "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" left off. He also dismissed rumors that "Indiana Jones 5" will stand as a prequel of the previous film, as rumored.
Although Marshall did not clear whether the film will be directly linked to the events of the previous film or not, he said something about someone taking the place of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
"It's all about the story. I think both in the Jason Bourne series and on Indiana Jones, we are not going to do the Bond thing. We think those characters are iconic, and those are the only actors who can play that," he said.
Since the Disney acquired the rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise in December 2013, rumors about who will play Indiana Jones have gone around, some even claiming that Chris Pratt or Bradley Cooper will replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
While it has already been confirmed that Ford will reprise his role, it is still uncertain if Shia LaBeouf will reprise hers as Mutt Williams.
Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
