'Indiana Jones 5' News: Disney Set To Plan Something Big For 'Indiana Jones'
Disney is planning something big for the "Indiana Jones" movie franchise.
Back in March, Steven Spielberg confirmed that he would work with Harrison Ford for the "Indiana Jones 5" film, which is set for release in July 2019. Since Ford will be 77 years old by then, some assume that the film will be the last "Indiana Jones" film fans will ever see. However, it looks like it's not.
Last month, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that "Indiana Jones" 5 is not the end but just the beginning.
"Right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuation and then a reboot of some sort. We'll bring Ford back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That's what I mean. It's not really a reboot, it's a boot--a reboot. I don't know," said Iger.
Disney-owned Lucas Film owns the "Indiana Jones" franchise so it is reasonable to assume that Disney really has bigger plans for the franchise.
On July 17 at the Star Wars Celebration Europe, ILM President Lynwen Brennan revealed something about the "Indiana Jones" movies while talking about their work on the "Star Wars" franchise.
"Kiri (Hart) and her group have mapped out a story and timeline across multiple platforms many years in advance, many exhausting years in advance. We have great honor to have responsibility for, so we want to be really careful with that. Not only for 'Star Wars' but with 'Indiana Jones' which we're all really excited about as well," he said.
This might mean that the Story Group which runs the story development for "Star Wars" and other standalone films is also in the process of creating something long-term for "Indiana Jones," possibly an interconnected "Indiana Jones" movie universe.
