'Independence Day: Resurgence' Movie Sequel Trailer, Cast News: Will Smith Replaced By Another Actor?
"Independence Day" will have its sequel, and there will be additional cast joining the film. However, it has been reported that Will Smith will be replaced by another actor.
The second film will be called "Independence Day: Resurgence," as per Enstarz report. Unfortunately, Smith will not be reprising his role as Steve Hiller, and it has been revealed that Jessie Usher will be playing as his step-son.
The young actor, together with Maika Monroe, who will be playing as President Thomas J. Whitmore's (Bill Pullman) daughter, shared their insights about the upcoming film via Fox 5. Usher and Smith have not met each other in person but their connection in the movie makes the new film star excited.
"The day I got the call, Will and Jada were in town meeting his old agent, Ken," he said. "Ken picked up the phone, and he said 'Hang on, I want you to talk to somebody,' and it was Will Smith, and the lady at the Fox office goes, 20 years ago we offered you this role, now we're going to offer it to somebody else."
More than that, they also talked about how the movie was made, as they were "perpetually shooting against a green screen being guided by voices as the movie has a whole lot of CGI." Aside from the duo, the movie also stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" kicks off in theaters on June 24, 2016.
