'Independence Day 2' News: First Set Photos of 'Independence Day Resurgence' Released

The upcoming sequel to Independence Day, will be entitled Independence Day Resurgence.

The film, which is set to be released on June 24th, 2016, comes nearly 20 years after the original movie mad its debut, and the excitement leading up to the film has already begun to reach a boiling point.

Some of the original stars from the first film are returning to reprise their roles. These include Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, and many more.

There will be some new coming actors to the franchise, as well, such as Liam Hemsworth.

Although there have not been many details about the film released up to this point, details are slowly but surely beginning to surface, such as the official title. Fox has released the first pictures from the set of the film.

In the first picture, fans can see the Moon Tug spacecraft, which they may remember from the first Independence Day.

There is also a picture featuring the director of the film, Roland Emmerich, posing alongside the machine.

In this thrilling follow up to Independence Day, the nations of the Earth will come together to work on a new defense program with the intention of protecting the planet.

However, they may have waited too late to begin this project as an alien attack of terrifying force is imminent.

Although Goldblum and Fox will be returning to the sequel, among others, the lead actor of the original Independence Day film, Will Smith, will not be a part of its sequel.

Instead, Jessie Usher will be playing the lead role in Independence Day Resurgence. Look out for more details about the film as they emerge.
