Fans are excited that the production of Independence Day 2, is currently underway. The sequel follows the first Independence Day, which was released in theaters twenty years ago and became a massive box office hit; in addition to putting Will Smith on the A list.

Smith is currently working, playing the role of Deadshot in Suicide Squad, however, most of his Independence Day co stars will be involved in the film, which is being directed by the director of the first film, Roland Emmerich.

The cast of Independence Day 2 includes several returning members, such as Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A Fox, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner.

New coming actors to the franchise include Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsboug, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward.

The producer and one of the co writers of Independence Day 2, Dean Devlin, posted a photograph from the set of the film of himself and Jeff Goldblum.

What seems to be an official plot synopsis for the new film is circulated online, although fans can expect a more detailed description of the story from 20^th Century Fox in the near future.

The plot summary says, "We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the even movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring out world back from the brink of extinction"

Look for Independence Day 2 in theaters on June 24^th, 2016.
