The sequel to 'Independence Day' seems to be moving forward in production with the recent casting news that reels in Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and Jessie Usher.

Goldblum will be reprising his role from the first movie but Usher and Hemsworth are both starring as new lead roles.

Usher will play the son of Will Smith's character, who reportedly will not be reprising his role in the film.

"Usher stars in the Lebron James-produced Starz TV series Survivor's Remorse as Cam Calloway, a basketball player who moves with his family to Atlanta after he signs a pro contract. The first season premiered Oct. 4, 2014, and Starz quickly renewed the show for a second season, which will air later this year," writes THR.

Liam Hemsworth's role in the film is currently unannounced, but its rumored he will have some relation to Bill Pullman's character, who has also not been confirmed to return just yet.

'Independence Day 2' is set to release on June 24^th, 2016 which is almost exactly 20 years from the date of the first movie's release of July 3^rd, 1996.
