‘Independence Day 2? New Cast News: 'It Follows' Actress Maika Monroe Tapped for Role in Sequel
Maika Monroe of "It Follows' fame will now be joining the cast of the sequel to the movie, "Independence Day.'
The director Ronald Emmerich made the announcement on Twitter by tweeting, "I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!"
Others on the cast are Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Travis Tope, as well as Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner, who all starred in the original film.
The original movie released in the year 1996, and earned around $817.4 million at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
The sequel, which is titled, "Independence Day Forever' is set to hit theaters June 24, 2016.
In the movie, "It Follows,' Monroe plays the character of a teenager who, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions.
Monroe is also part of the movie, "The 5th Wave,' which also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, apart from "Tribes of Palos Verdes' alongside Jennifer Garner.
