'Independence Day 2' Movie Cast News: Bill Pullman & Judd Hirsch to Return, Will Smith May Not Come Back
Director Roland Emmerich recently tweeted that almost all the cast members of the first 'Independence Day' movie, barring the main star, will be returning to reprise their roles in the reboot.
According to Christian Today, Emmerich announced during the weekend that both Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman will reprise their roles in the forthcoming sequel to the hit 1996 sci-fi film. He further said that Pullman will be returning as Thomas J. Whitmore, the former U.S. president who was at the helm of the country at the time when aliens tried to invade Earth. Hirsh, on the other hand, will reprise his role as Julius Levinson, the satellite technician David Levinson's father. Levinson will be portrayed by Jeff Goldblum, who is also returning for the new film.
The above-mentioned actors will be joined by other returning cast members, which include Vivica A. Fox who played the role of Jasmine Dubrow, and Brent Spiner as Dr. Brackish Okun.
Their return means the only one allegedly not returning for the sequel is the lead character named Captain Steven Hiller, portrayed by Will Smith in the original "Independence Day."
In addition to the old cast, the sequel to 'Independence Day' will also have a string of new cast members, including 'The Hunger Games' star Liam Hemsworth, The other new actors include 'The Conjuring' star Joey King, 'The Science of Sleep' actress Charlotte Gansbourg, and Travis Tope, who featured in the 'Boardwalk Empire' TV series. In addition, 'Survivor's Remorse' star Jessie Usher is also likely to portray the role of Steven and Jasmine's son Dylan.
While the plot for the upcoming 'Independence Day 2' movie is yet to be unannounced, already there are many several speculations and some claim that Smith's character breathed his last following his heroic deed to save the United States from the alien invasion in the original 'Independence Day' movie. In the sequel, the new actors will continue his job. Nevertheless, several reports have claimed that Smith could still appear in the upcoming film in a cameo role.
As of now, it is planned that 'Independence Day 2' will hit the theaters on June 24, 2016.
