'Independence Day 2' Cast News: Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch Return for Film Sequel
Fans of the movie Independence Day have been waiting to find out whether or not Bill Pullman would be returning for the sequel film, Independence Day 2, and now they finally have their answer.
After many months of waiting for confirmation, it has been confirmed that both he, and another member of the movie's original cast, Judd Hirsch, will be returning for the new feature.
Pullman and Hirsch will be joined by several other members of the movie's original cast. These include Jeff Goldblum, Brent Spiner and Vivica A. Fox.
Some new actors that will appear in the series are Liam Hemsworth, Jesse Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope and Joey King. The director, Rolan Emmerich, shared the latest news about the Independence Day 2 casting with fans by way of two Twitter posts.
The announcements were not a surprise however, as Pullman has been making mention of an Independence Day sequel for years. Some are surprised though, that Hirsch is coming back, because no one has heard much about him in discussions of the sequel.
Emmerich said in 2013 that he thought that Hirsch would return, but Hirsch responded to this statement later the same year by saying that he was not sure.
Independence Day 2 is set about 20 years after the events of the first movie, Independence Day. In the movie, new alien invaders have landed on Earth and a new generation of fighters is summoned to defend it.
The screenplay was written by Dean Devlin and Emmerich, and was rewritten by James Vanderbilt and Carter Blanchard. In the first Independence Day, Pullman played the role of President Thomas J. Whitmore, and became known for the character's moving monologue.
The movie is set to be released June 24, 2016 in theaters.
