Iggy Azalea News: Singer Wins First Part of Lawsuit Against Ex-Boyfriend Maurice Williams

Iggy Azalea, saw the first part of what is expected to be a long lawsuit against ex-boyfriend Maurice Williams (a.k.a. the rapper Hefe Wine), go her way when a judge granted a preliminary injunction, which bars the release of the unofficial Azalea EP titled, "Inizio."

The Australian hip-hop sensation claimed Williams stole a mixtape that was recorded in 2008 (which would later become "Inizio") off of her laptop.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that "citing forged signatures and significant discrepancies in the production quality of the leaked Azalea material, Williams has been barred from releasing any music from Azalea."

As reported in MusicTimes, the rapper, who had a breakout year in 2014, claimed that a signed document in her management contract with Kareen Chapman was used to forge documents that allowed Williams' company Wine Enterprises, Inc. rights to "manufacture, sell, distribute, and advertise "any' recording embodying visual images of Azalea."

The suit Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, filed last year, included copyright infringement, along with eight other complaints.

For Azalea to fully win the lawsuit presided over by Judge Beverly Reid O'Connell, her camp needs to prove that the distribution of "Inizio" caused her career "irreparable harm."

Among the unreleased materials Williams has already posted online include "U Ain't My Daddy Lyric Video" and Hefe Wine's "It Ain't Trickin'," which features Azalea.

"Although it may seem intuitive that her right of her first publication is already lost because Defendants already released their videos, it does not appear"”and defendants do not contend"”that they released the entirety of each of her copyrighted songs," Judge O'Connell was quoted saying by MusicTimes.

"That they used samples from her songs does not deprive her of the right to control when, if ever, she chooses to publish the entire song. That right remains intact," she added.
