Idris Elba News: Actor Breaks U.K. Land Speed Record in a Bentley
Whether he gets to play the role of the legendary secret agent or not, actor Idris Elba plans to enjoy life as one one way or the other.
The actor recently broke a U.K. land speed record the other day in a Bentley Continental GT Speed. Elba was clocked in going 180 mph while the country's record was around 174. This record also stood at its spot for 88 years before Elba's triumphant win.
"Yup, that's right the man who is not playing James Bond for reasons passing understanding, drove 180.36 mph in Wales, according to a news release from Bentley, breaking the existing record of 174.8 mph set by Sir Malcolm Campbell (like seriously this already sounds like a Bond film!). The endeavor was filmed for an upcoming four-part Discovery Channel series, Idris Elba: No Limits, which we assume means he'll also be breaking some more records and drinking more champagne," writes USA Today.
It is unknown if the stunt was some kind of underhand campaign for the role, however it has earned the actor a good amount of attention and cool points.
"Bentley says that the car was not modified in any way for the test. A 'flying mile' measures the top speed a car hits between two points a mile apart, but the vehicle gets rolling before it hits point A as opposed to starting at 0 mph," writes E! Online.
'Idris Elba: No Limits' is set to premiere in July.
