'ID Forever' Release Date, Cast News: Sequel to 'Independence Day' Stars Jeff Goldblum & Liam Hemsworth

After nearly twenty years after the original film, Independence Day 2 is well on its way to becoming a highly anticipated summer film. Wednesday, director Roland Emmerich confirmed to various sources that Jeff Goldblum will return to play computer expert David Levinson. Liam Hemsworth, most known for his role as Gale in The Hunger Games films, will also join the cast as a lead role.

The news was announced by Emmerich on his Facebook page. He cleverly quoted the first film stating, "'First you strategically position your pieces, and when the time is right, you strike.'Excited to officially announce Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum as the next two pieces of the Independence Day sequel!" This post now has over 6,000 likes and has been shared over 500 times.

Goldblum and Hemsworth join Starz "Survivor's Remorse" star Jessie Usher, who was announced to play the son of Will Smith's character Captain Steven Hiller. Unfortunately, Smith will not be returning for the sequel.

However, Bill Pullman, who played President of the United States Thomas Whitmore, is expected to reprise his role. Rumored to also appear in the sequel is Michael B. Jordan who will play the new Human Torch in The Fantastic Four reboot this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel is titled ID Forever. Emmerich will produce alongside Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser. James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft of the script.

On that note, the plot of ID Forever has yet to be revealed. Fans and critics alike speculate the same looking aliens will return to Earth as they try to take over once again since their first attempt was a complete failure in the last film.

ID Forever is set to be released on June 24, 2016.
