It's the simple things that sometimes make one really feel special. Just last Wednesday, Hollywood actress Nikki Reed surprised fiancé and 'Vampire Diaries' star Ian Somerhalder with a good luck cake as Somerhalder prepares for his first directing job for the CBS show the next day.  

The touched actor, upon arriving home was very much surprised and right away took to Instagram, the cake topped with strawberries and chocolate chips that read 'Good luck/ I [Heart] U." Somerhalder posted the photo with a caption: "The best thing to come home to! Wow, thank you you amazing @iamnikkireed -it's true. I start DIRECTING episode 616 of The Vampire Diaries tomorrow!!! I definitely need all the luck I can get! Send me great vibes tomorrow everyone..." he wrote.

"Also, THANK YOU to all that made this happen: Warner Brothers, The CW,our producers all of you-thank you.Thank you also to the most amazing group of artisans that is the CREW of The Vampire Diaries-you are the UNSUNG HEROES of what people see on their screens! You are my brothers, my sisters-my family. I Love you all. Wow. I'm a lucky lucky boy," Somerhalder added.

Somerhalder have had his hands full since last week when he finally asked Reed for her hand in marriage. Now, apparently the 'Vampire Diaries' actor who plays Damon Salvatore in the hit CBS show will be trying on a new role that is directing episode 616 of the series.

The actor even shared a photo of his 1^st day directing the episode. The photo showed Somerhalder's new parking slot which read: 'Reserved Parking/Director'. Somerhalder wrote in a caption" "Day 1! Coolest parking spot... So humbled by the artisanal skills of this group of people-on every level," he wrote.

The newly engaged couple also recently adopted two horses named Eagle and Millie which Somerhalder shared on his Instagram as well. Although the horses weren't visible in the photo, their personalized bridles were.
