'Humans' New Series News: AMC Releases First Trailer of New Sci-Fi TV Drama [VIDEO]
AMC, in association with Channel 4 and Kudos, has just unveiled the first look of its latest science fiction drama titled 'Humans.'
The network has also released the first trailers of 'Into the Badlands' and 'Fear the Walking Dead,' a spin-off of the hit horror drama series 'The Walking Dead.' All these television drama series will premiere in June 2015.
According to IB Times, the upcoming series 'Humans' is based on the Swedish show titled 'Real Humans,' which is set in a parallel present where any busy family needs to have a gadget called "synth" - a very advanced robotic servant bizarrely resembling its live counterpart. The story of the series revolves around a stressed suburban family, who purchases a renewed synth expecting to change the way they live, but discovers that sharing life with a machine has sweeping and scary consequences.
The series features William Hurt, Tom Goodman-Hill, Katherine Parkinson, Colin Morgan, Neil Maskell and Rebecca Front along with Gemma Chan, who will portray a synth.
According to AMC, Parkinson and Hill portray the role of the couple who buy a synth, Anita. Sooner or later they come to know that though Anita is compliant, servile automaton, which all synths are thought to be, once in a while, she does something really incomprehensible, something that is nearly human. Colin Morgan portrays the character of Leo, a young man on the run, while Neil Maskell is seen as a member of the Special Technologies Task Force. On the other hand, William Hurt portrays the character of George Millican, a widower, who treats his outmoded synth Odi more like a son, instead of a machine.
It is interesting to note that originally 'Humans' was developed for Xbox Entertainment Studios, but AMC stepped in to pick up the project when the studio shut down last year. The series will also be aired on Channel 4 in the U.K.
While it has been confirmed that the first season of 'Humans' will have a total of eight-episodes, AMC has yet to announce the exact premiere date of the series. However, the first online glimpse of Gemma Chan's synth Anita has excited quite a few.
