Hugh Jackman Latest News: Actor in Negotiations to Star in Lionsgate ‘The Odyssey’ Film
The 'Wolverine' star Hugh Jackman is said to be in negotiations with Lionsgate to feature in a movie adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey.'
IB Times reports that Jackman's recently confirmed to The Wrap that the actor is in the initial stages of talks with the studio for joining the project. The actor's representative told the publication, "This is a conversation at this point. Very early stages and nothing is confirmed."
Meanwhile, latest reports state Francis Lawrence, who directed the 'Hunger Games' movies, will be at the helm of 'The Odyssey.' If the deal goes through, Jackman will portray the character of Odysseus, the hero of the film who goes on a long voyage to return home after the Trojan War.
In addition to 'The Odyssey,' Jackman currently has more than a few movie projects lined up, including Joe Wright's 'Pan,' wherein the actor portrays Blackbeard. Recently, Jackman has signed up Dexter Fletcher's ski jumper movie 'Eddie the Eagle' and is also gearing up to reprise his Marvel superhero role for the last 'Wolverine' movie.
The Hollywood Reporter states that earlier Jackman teased fans with some details regarding the Marvel movie, which may possibly be added to director James Mangold's sequel. Last week, during a Sydney Confidential podcast, the Australian star talked about two of the most popular suggestions he received from 'Wolverine' fans.
According to the actor, the first was a demand to bring Victor Creed, better known as Sabretooth, back to the sequel. The Marvel villain was last seen in the 'X-Men' and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' movies, wherein Tyler Mane and Liev Schreiber portrayed the character, respectively.
The second suggestion was to feature Wolverine's "berserker rage" in the film. In fact, the previous movies 'Wolverine' or 'X-Men' too did not show this. In fact, the animalistic side of the Marvel mutant seizes the character, which subsequently leaves a brutal and mindless creature that is dangerous for everyone, irrespective of being a friend or foe.
Jackman's upcoming 'Wolverine' sequel is scheduled for release in 2017, while 'Pan' will hit theaters sometime in early October.
