HTC Vive Release Date, Price: Taiwanese Tech Giant Challenges Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR
The first impressions for HTC Vive Pre were largely positive as the first ones to test the VR gaming device took note of the easy setup while also being comfortable to wear for long periods.
The device is equipped with a nose gasket with adjustable straps, which would be good news for those who wear glasses. The HTC Vive also has two sets of cushions to fit perfectly with the Western or Asian consumers.
Self-proclaimed global VR evangelist Scott Broock had a good first impression of HTC Vive Pre as he tweeted, "Just experienced HTC and Valve's VR solution at #MWC15. Utterly phenomenal. The controller solution is intuitive and precise."
Later, he replied to a fan who asked for more details. "@BSanbizzle @VR_BHart going to play it safe and let the press cover it. Can easily say that it just feels 'right,'" Broock added.
Wareable also walked away from the demo with a good first impression of HTC Vive Pre.
"In CG, everything looks crisp, vibrant and inviting and on the Pre, thanks to brighter displays and 'image refinements' on this device," Sophie Charara wrote. "We've played around with Oculus + Kinect 2 experiments but nothing as accurate and lag-free as this."
Kyle Orland of Arstechnica noted that while the overall resolution was better than the Oculus Rift dev kits, when the player zooms into the object, the pixels get magnified which needs a little bit of getting used to.
HTC Vive Pre retails for $799 and pre-orders can be made at the manufacturer's website http://www.htcvive.com/us/product/.
HTC Vive is set to be released on April 5, 2016.
