HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update News: Google's New OS Finally Launches for Device

Last year HTC had set a goal for itself, to bring the Android 5.0 L update to HTC One M8 within 90 days of the source code, which was announced on November 3rd, 2014. It seems HTC has managed to achieve its target and, the update has already become available on HTC One M8 developer and unlocked versions.

"We're still on track to update carrier versions of HTC One M7 & M8 within 90 days as well. More news on Unlocked and Dev editions soon!," tweeted HTC on December 6.

Though HTC missed the January 3 deadline for the M8 and M7 updates, a recent HTC Vietnam leak has confirmed that Android Lollipop update for the two HTC flagships will be completed by January.

According to a recent tweet by HTC leaks expert, LlabTooFer, the HTC One M7 will get an Android 5.0.2 update soon but that could be the last major update for the M7 flagship.

The HTC One E8 and HTC Desire Eye will receive the update in February. The HTC Butterfly 2 is in line for a February update as well. The busiest time for HTC Android Lollipop updates will be in March with the HTC Desire 816, HTC Desire 820u, HTC One Mini 2 and HTC One Max lined up along with the Chinese versions of the HTC One E8 and HTC One M8 Eye.

HTC has received 'TA' or Technical Acceptance from Google for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update with Sense 6 UI as per Mo Versi, HTC's VP of Product Management. "HTC One (M8) Unlock and Dev Owners! We have received TA from Google on Lollipop + Sense 6. OTA will be out starting tonight. #HTCAdvantage," posted @moversi tweeted on Twitter on Tuesday.

As with any new version of Android, Lollipop is being introduced to devices after extensive testing from Google, each manufacturer, and each carrier. This, as you might imagine, would mean significant delays for each version and you can expect each carrier to roll out their own version a bit at a time.

Both the One M7 and One M8 are available for the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile carriers but there's been no word yet on availability for these devices on each specific carrier.
