Famed Irish singer, Andrew Hozier-Byme (popularly known by his mononym Hozier) recently decided to perform music during the Christmas season with songs about Christ and God.

This is a bit controversial considering his declaration about a year ago that faith is absurd. His latest collection of Christmas-related songs will definitely have some irony to them.

Hozier gained international fame as a musician in 2013 when his song "Take Me To Church" was nominated for a Grammy award. This single has catapulted him to stardom.

The song is very critical about religion, Christianity in particular, for being judgmental. The official music video of his hit song featured homosexual relationship.

The 25-year-old singer has decided to perform a stripped down version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." The singer performed the Christmas carol on BBC Radio 1's Life Lounge and some members of the audience were surprised by the song choice.

Hozier is a self-avowed non-religious, although he has been raised as a Catholic and attended a Catholic secondary school as a child.

Some of his popular songs are very critical about the Christian religion. He said in an interview that he does not anymore consider himself a Catholic, but clarified that he still does not define himself as an atheist despite not having faith. He said that it would be too absolute to define himself as an atheist.

In an interview with Evening Standard last year, Hozier declared that faith is an absurd thing but said that he is not necessarily against it. The singer said that there are no answers simply because the universe did not ask a question in the first place.
