Houston Rockets Trade Rumors, Offseason News: Trade with Celtics a False Rumor
It has been confirmed that the rumor regarding the Celtic's trade of Rajon Rondo to the Houston Rockets is not true. The Celtics have been adamant in their stand to not trade off Rondo for anything.
The Rockets have failed in their bid to sign free agent Carmelo Anthony, and now that LeBron James has returned to the Cavaliers, the team is looking to sign other available free agents. With this, they turn their attention to Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love and also Celtic's Rajon Rondo.
Danny Ainge, the Celtic's president of basketball operations, has been pretty firm in the past on his need to get a major player in return for his All-Star point guard. While he has to realize Rondo's impending 2015 free agency may change the game a bit, he is still under no time pressure to pull the trigger, according to NESN.
Even with the Celtics firm in their position to keep Rondo, the rumor that he will be traded off somewhere is just the start as his free agency in 2015 is impending.
The Rockets are financially flexible and have a major salary cap up for grabs, this is their trump card when looking into interested free agents. However, their request to the Dallas Mavericks to turn Chandler Parson's free agent signing into a sign-and-trade was rejected. The deal would have granted the Rockets a valuable trade exception.
Until Rondo's free agency however, there isn't much the Rockets can do to sign him off before the start of the next season.
