‘House of Cards’ Season 3 Release Date News: Official Twitter Confirmation for Premiere in Feb. 2015

Netflix's original political drama series 'House of Cards' will return for its third season on Feb. 27, 2015, CNET reports.

The announcement was made by Netflix through several teaser tweets on the show's official Twitter account.

The first tweet posted at 10 am on Monday claimed that there will be "Breaking News" released at 11 am that day by President Frank Underwood and his First Lady.

The second tweet was posted later on with a video offering a "special message from the White House." The video showed President Underwood and First Lady Claire boarding a plane before the American flat was shown upside down and the date "02/27/15."

'House of Cards' was released in 2013 with the first season consisting of 13 episodes. It chronicled Underwood's rise through the ranks from Congressman to Vice President of the United States. It was then followed by season two in early 2014 with 13 episodes, where viewers watched Underwood nab a seat at the White House as the President of the U.S with his many misdeeds and manipulations.

Since its release in 2013, 'House of Cards' has been a success with a total of 22 Emmy nominations, four of which the show won, according to PC World. Procera's unofficial estimate also calculated that five to 15 percent of Netflix's subscribers have seen an episode of the show.

Thanks to the success of 'House of Cards', Netflix has been given the push to start producing its own original works and feature films, such as the four upcoming Adam Sandler movies and a sequel to 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.

Netflix also acquired the rights to an adaptation of 'Marco Polo', which will be available on Netflix on Dec. 12, according to CNET.

'House of Cards' was created by Beau Willimon. It stars Kevin Spacey as President Underwood, Robin Wright as First Lady Claire Underwood, Corey Stoll as Representative Peter Russo, Michel Gill as President Garrett Walker, Kate Mara as Zoe Barnes, Kristen Connolly as Christina Gallagher and more.
