'House of Cards' Season 3 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Showrunner Beau Willimon Talks Netflix Leak
The Emmy winning Netflix series "House of Cards" is returning for its third season on Netflix this Friday, February 27. In light of the highly anticipated return, showrunner and writer of the show Beau Willimon decided to talk about the main character, Frank Underwood, and the early leak of the season that happened during the Valentine's Day weekend.
In an interview the Daily News Willimon said of Frank Underwood, "There's something inherently optimistic about Frank Underwood," added Willimon, "He looks at the impossible and says that it might be possible. And despite being a murderer, Underwood is fundamentally hopeful."
Underwood, who is played by Oscar winning actor Kevin Spacey, has had a mad climb to the Oval Office, killing two people so far in the past two seasons.
This dark look at politics is one that is Willimon is trying to bring to light in actual politics.
He said in the interview, "That doesn't mean that they are murderers, but it does mean that they play a very serious life-and-death game," he added, "We're just dramatizing an amplified, dark version of that."
Season 3 is one of the most highly anticipated shows to return to Netflix, so much so that the series was leaked early for twenty minutes. Shortly after the leak, the episodes were pulled down. Willimon told Rolling Stone that is was nothing to worry about.
He said, "We take great care, obviously, to keep as much of the story secret as possible. A little bit of the story was let out but there are plenty of surprises ahead. Twenty minutes is not enough for people to have figured everything out."
Fans of the show are excited to see what has happened in The White House this Friday.
