'Homeland' Season 6 News Update, Spoilers: Series Continues To Deal With Terrorism and Privacy

"Homeland" season 6 will take place in the United States, and it is still going to deal with the themes of the previous season--terrorism and privacy.

This was revealed by showrunner Alex Gansa, who shared some interesting bits of facts about the much-anticipated season.

The executive producer revealed that although season 6 will retain the themes of season 5, the upcoming season will be set in a new environment, which is the United States. This is the first time that this is going to happen since the conclusion of season 3.

Gansa remained tight-lipped about the details of the storyline, but she confirmed that the episodes of season 6 will tackle the balance between civil liberties and civil security. She also revealed that some of the events happening in the upcoming season will resemble some of the recent terrorist attacks around the world. In fact, season 5 ended with a bombing incident that resembled the bombing in Paris.

"Sometimes I wish we hadn't been so relevant, I have to say," said Gansa.

The producer also revealed that aside from terrorism, another subject that season 6 will deal with is Carrie's past. She said that the upcoming season will explore the history of her character so fans may know how she started her career in intelligence work and how she became friends with Saul Berenson.

"I think that'd be an interesting thing to explore, now that I think about it. I mean, you will in episode 12, hear the story of how Quinn was recruited. It's nice to know where these people came from," she said.

While the premiere date of the series has not been announce yet, "Homeland" season 6 is expected to air on Showtime sometime this year.
