'Homeland' Season 5 Spoilers, Release Date News: Filming Shifted to Take Place in Germany

For Season 5 of Homeland the show will be undergoing another huge move. This fall, the fifth season of the popular show will be premiering on Showtime, and it has been confirmed that then new season will be shot in Germany.

Alex Gansa, the executive producer of Homeland, hinted at the fact that this would be the case at PaleyFest last month.

He said that the fifth season would "probably" shoot in Germany, but nothing was confirmed at that time. Homeland will become the first American TV show to shoot an entire season in Germany.

There is not much else known about the fifth season of the show right now, but there was a press release issued, which revealed that season five would take place two years after Carrie Mathison's tenure as Islamabad station chief.

She will be facing a struggle as she comes to terms with her guilt and disillusionment after working at the forefront of the "war on terror" for an extended period of time.

Viewers will meet Carrie in exile in Berlin, an employee of a private security firm and estranged from the CIA. This means that season five will be another exciting season, at least in terms of Carrie's plot line.

Homeland was renewed for a twelve episode fifth season last year. This shift from the Middle East to Europe, means that Homeland will be moving its production from Cape Town, where most of the scenes that took place last year were filmed.

The show will now be filming in Studio Babelsberg in Berlin. Showtime will be premiering the fifth season of Homeland in September.
