'Homeland' Season 5 Spoilers News: New Episodes Set in Germany; Mathison to Have a New Love Interest
Fans of 'Homeland,' the hit political thriller drama series on Showtime, are eagerly waiting for the show's fifth season to return to the small screen. However, they are already aware that Season 5 will start two and a half years' from where Season 4 ended and the upcoming series will be set in Berlin.
In 'Homeland' Season 5, fans will see that CIA case officer Carrie Mathison, portrayed by Claire Danes, will no more be with the U.S. government; in its place, the she will be seen working for a private security firm in the German capital, reports Latin Post.
A recent report in E! Online states that currently the producers of 'Homeland' are looking for a new little redhead to play the role of Frannie, the daughter of Mathison and longtime prisoner of war Nicholas Brody, as interpreted by Damian Lewis.
In the upcoming season of 'Homeland,' Frannie would be about 3 years old. According to the website, this will make her "a child who is far less easy to ignore." In addition to her daughter, the former counter-terrorism ace will be having other issues on her personal-relationship plate during the new chapter in her life. In fact, the writers have promised a new love interest for Mathison - it will be "a lawyer who is her intellectual equal."
Augmenting the mystery, E! Online reported, "Oh, and Saul better watch out because Carrie will also be getting a new father figure."
According to the local Süddeutsche Zeitung, it is interesting to note that 'Homeland' will be the first ever U.S. television series which will be filming an entire season in Germany. Earlier, 'Homeland' Season 4 was set in South Africa. Meanwhile, the storyline of the upcoming season will also focus on the Middle East and may also include the recent events in Ukraine. Showrunner Alex Gansa revealed this to the Guardian.
The report quotes the German movie blog Flimflutter stating that in several ways, 'Homeland' fans can expect a "reboot" of the series, considering the new location as well as the end of the relationship between Mathison and Brody.
Filmfluter also speculated that Carrie "has to tackle feelings of guilt and disappointments ... and her relationship with Saul had seen better times, as well," the website explained. "But as was the case with Jack Bauer, her expertise will most certainly be needed by the CIA, and she will be drawn back into a world she had tried to abandon."
