'Homeland' Season 5 Spoilers: Carrie Mathison Leaves CIA, Series Moves Setting to Europe

The opening night of PaleyFest, the annual TV celebration at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, proved to be an exciting one Showtime's hit series "Homeland" had a few spoilers announced during a panel discussion with some of its cast and crew members.

Executive producer and director Alex Gansa revealed on Friday, March 6, that character Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) would no longer be a CIA agent. Gansa also said that the show would jump ahead two and a half years. The show would be moving its location from South Africa, which served as Islamabad and Kabul, to Germany.

"OK, that was bigger than I intended," he said after revealing the news. When questioned further about the series Gansa state that he simply couldn't say another word about the show. No other big plot reveals or new of other cast member's characters were discussed.

"Homeland" has had some scrutiny for the fourth season from Pakistani officials, claiming that their country and government were being portrayed in a poor light. However, the show was merely trying to stay in tune with what is going on in the actual world and applying that news to their show.

What the show will discuss in its fifth season it still to be determined. Along with Gansa, the panel also included actress Claire Danes, actor Maury Sterling, EP/writers, Meredith Stiehm, Chip Johannessen and Alex Cary, EP/Director Lesli Linka Glatter and composer Sean Callery.

"Homeland" follows CIA officer Carrie Mathison and her constant battle to keep her bipolar disorder and work in line. She is tops in her field and has a lot of help from her long-time mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and her task force team.

Showtime has yet to announce on official air date for Season 5 of "Homeland."
