'Homeland' Season 5 News: Show to Shift Location, Direction; Receives Emmy Nominations
Even as the hit political spy thriller television series 'Homeland' is set all set to return for its fifth season this fall, the executives of the show have been sharing details about the upcoming season with their fans.
In an interview with E! News in March, series showrunner Alex Carey had revealed that 'Homeland' Season 5 will kick off two years following the events in the show's Season 4 finale. According to Christian Today, the new season of 'Homeland' will open up a lot of new opportunities for Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison. The official synopsis of Season 5 explains this further.
The official synopsis of 'Homeland' Season 5 reads, "Season 5 will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison's ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,' Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm."
Meanwhile, series co-creator Alex Gansa recently told The Hollywood Reporter that 'Homeland' Season 5 will still deal with the existing situations in spite of leaving the Middle East terrorism issue in Season 4 finale. This helps the show to shift its location to Berlin, Germany, in the upcoming season. Currently, filming of 'Homeland' Season 5 is underway at the legendary Babelsberg Studio, which was the home of Nazi propaganda leader Joseph Goebbels during the time of the Second World War. It has been reported that the place offers the new backdrop for the upcoming season of 'Homeland.'
Apart from talking about the upcoming season of 'Homeland,' Gansa also mentioned about the recent recognition received by the show's Season 4 from the Emmy's. In addition to being nominated for the Best Drama series category, 'The Homeland' also received green signals for the Best Lead Actress in a Drama series for Danes, in addition to the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for series director Lesli Linka Glatter.
Gansa said, "It was truly unexpected and very gratifying at the same time," adding, "It's hard to make a comeback, especially in Hollywood. Now I can really be honest and reveal just how devastated I was last season when we didn't get a nomination [last year]. It was really hard for everyone on the show."
'Homeland' Season 5 is likely to premiere this September on Showtime.
