'Homeland' Season 5 Finale Recap: Carrie Chases Qasim, Reads Peter Quinn's Love Letter?

The season 5 finale of "Homeland" shocked a lot of its viewers. It may have even made a lot of fans cry with its ending.

The finale episode started with Carrie (Claire Danes) running in a Berlin subway. She is chasing Qasim (Alireza Bayram) but was really out to get Bibi (Rene Ifrah) who will release the poisonous sarin gas. She was able to halt the gas attack but Qasim and Bibi died in the process according to TV Line (via Realty Today)

Meanwhile, Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), may not make it because of the deadly toxic gas that hospitalized him. He was in a coma and would probably have permanent brain damage if ever he manages to survive.

Carrie reads Peter's love letter for her.

"I guess I'm done and we never happened," Quinn says in the letter.

Carrie continues reading.

"I don't believe in fate, or destiny or horoscopes but I can't say I'm not surprised things turned out this way. I always felt there was something kinda pulling me back to darkness. I wasn't allowed a real life or a real love... With you I thought, 'ah maybe, just maybe' but I know now that was a false glimmer..."

Quinn finishes his letter with a line that reads:

"Just think of me as a light on the headlands, a beacon steering you clear of the rocks. I loved you. Yours for always now - Quinn "

The season ended in a sad note as Carrie attempts to remove Peter's pulse monitor. Did she really pulled the plug? What will happen after that? All questions will be answered next season.
