Hillsong Movie 'Let Hope Rise' Announced by Alcon Entertainment; Focuses on Worship Band's Influencial Rise in Music (TRAILER)
Hillsong's worship group is getting their own feature documentary movie that will be shot on five different continents.
Hillsong - Let Hope Rise will get a worldwide release by Warner bros. Pictures, and it is directed by Michael John Warren who did Jay Z's "Fade to Black." The movie will focus on how Hillsong UNITED became the influential worship band they are today beginning from their early years as a youth band.
"In terms of reach, Hillsong UNITED is one of the biggest bands out there, Christian or otherwise. But at their core, they're just a group of unassuming individuals impacting the world with their music. We're thrilled to be part of bringing their extraordinary story to the big screen," said Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson of Alcon Entertainment in a joint statement.
According to a press release, it is estimated that every Sunday nearly 30 million people are singing a song created by Hillsong.
"With songs like Mighty to Save, Oceans, Hosanna and From the Inside Out, anyone who regularly attends a church knows Hillsong's music by heart. That's how influential they've become," Jonathan Bock of Grace Hill Media said in a release, "And yet despite the fame and adulation, they're still just a simple worship band trying to do what tens of thousands of other worship bands try to do every week -- glorify God through their music. How they balance that is a fascinating and surprising story."
The film will focus on the creation of the next album, and will capture the band performing all over the world. It will feature concert footage and behind the scenes looks as well.
"It's a little weird and a lot humbling to have a movie made about us," worship leader Joel Houston said in a release, "But we didn't say 'yes' to this to draw attention to ourselves. It's our hope that by sharing an up-close and unvarnished look inside our music and lives, we can shatter pre-conceived notions of what it means to follow Jesus in today's modern world."
