Obamacare Update News 2014: Obama Clarifies Stand on Allegations Against New Legislature
President Barack Obama denied charges that he misled Americans about the healthcare reform law in order to get it passed, according to the reports of The Washington Times.
President Obama says he and his administration did not mislead the public on the financing of the health care law, disputing statements by a consultant who said supporters of the bill took advantage of the "stupidity" of American voters.
"The fact that an adviser who was never on our staff expressed an opinion that I completely disagree with in terms of the voters is not a reflection on the actual process that was run," Obama told reporters at a news conference following the G-20 summit in Brisbane, Australia.
The adviser in question, MIT economics professor Jonathan Gruber, has been described as either the "architect of Obamacare," or simply a consultant who had also worked to help craft Massachusetts' health care law under then Governor Mitt Romney. Uncovered remarks Gruber made regarding the lack of transparency of the Affordable Care Act have given critics of the law ammunition to criticize it.
Gruber even designed a computer model that predicts both the costs and effects of healthcare policy changes, need to be noted.
"Despite the President's indifferent tone toward Gruber, he has acknowledged that some of his own statements about the law were misguided, in particular his repeated promises that if Americans liked their health care plan they could keep them. In fact, many plans were deemed inadequate under the law, leading people to get notices that their plans were being canceled," reports Politico.
