HBO Renews 'The Leftovers' For Final Season 3
HBO will be renewing its fan favorite apocalyptic series "The Leftovers" for a new Season 3, bringing fans much excitement. But not so fast! The next run will also be the series last, containing the show's final ending.
"It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome back Damon Lindelof, Tom Perrotta and the extraordinary talent behind 'The Leftovers' for its third and final season," said HBO President Lombardo in a press release.
"This show has proven to be one of the most distinctive HBO series and we are extremely proud of its unrivaled originality, which has resulted in such a passionate following by our HBO viewers. We admire and fully support Damon's artistic vision and respect his decision to bring the show to its conclusion next season," Lombardo said.
Series writer Lindelof expressed his gratitude towards HBO for the company's creative support and trust. Lindelof also acknowledged that it is rare for a network to allow producers to end the show on their own terms.
As Lindelof had planned it, each season in the show is like a novel. It has its beginning, middle, and end. The writer hints that "The Leftovers" will have an ambiguous but heartwarming definitive finale.
Finally, Lindelof thanked the show's passionate fans who have been raving about giving the show a third installment following its sophomore season's momentous and tear-jerking last two episodes.
The recently concluded season expanded the concept of rapture that was explored in Tom Perrotta's bestselling novel of the same name.
Rapture is a Bibical event that happens before the Earth meets Aplocalypse. People who are considered pure will disappear. The series plays upon ordinary peoples' reaction towards the extraordinary event.
