Harry Potter Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts' Cast News: Colin Farrell Joins Eddie Redmayne & Katherine Waterston

Several distinguished actors from across the Atlantic have already featured in the Harry Potter film series. Veteran actors like Maggie Smith, Kenneth Branagh, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Gary Oldman, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, and John Cleese have all left their mark on the hugely popular magical epic.

A latest report claimed that Colin Farrell as been added to the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter Spin-Off movie titled 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.' The Irish actor will portray the character of Greaves in the film.

According to Latin Post, Farrell will be joining the cast members headed by the Academy Award winner for best actor Eddie Redmayne, alongside with Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and comedian Dan Fogler. In addition, singer Alison Sudol will also be making her acting debut in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.'

Farrell, who featured in 'Total Recall,' will be a wizard named Gravesm, who will cross paths with the "magizoologist" Newt Scamander (portrayed by Redmayne) in New York.

The Hollywood Reporter states, "The story centers on Newt's adventures in the secret community of witches and wizards as he attempts to document magical creatures. The events of Fantastic Beasts take place 70 years before Harry Potter reads Newt's book in school."

Alongside the remaining cast of the movie, Farrell is also likely to be tied to the Harry Potter spinoff for multiple years. It is worth mentioning here that The New York Times carried a feature of Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara last year stating that author J.K. Rowling has consented to expand the Harry Potter world in "three mega movies" starring Newt Scamander.

The upcoming movie will have the Potter touch as J.K. Rowling herself is writing the script, while David Yates will be directing the supposed trilogy. Yates has directed the Harry Potter films from 2005's 'Goblet of Fire' onward.

'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' will be released worldwide in IMAX as well as 3D on Nov. 18, 2016.
