'Harry Potter' New Movie News, Rumors: Director Chris Columbus Interested in Continuing Series
The last 'Harry Potter' film came out four years ago, which solemnly put a nail in the coffin for the adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
It is common knowledge that this truth has disappointed fans of the franchise, and despite a spin-off film being announced in the next year, there is still much more fans would love to see of the magical trio they grew up with.
While this hasn't been confirmed, and the decision for that to ever happen is largely in the hands of the 'Harry Potter' author J.K. Rowling, director Chris Columbus has voiced his similar sentiments to the fans.
In an interview with EW, the director speaks on his interest for a continuation project:
"I would love to go back and do another one. Not 'Fantastic Beasts' as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters - Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I'm just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There's 18 years there of great 'Harry Potter' stories."
While Columbus would love to see this done, and more importantly direct such a project, he explains why he would never approach Rowling with the proposal.
"I don't have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her," says Columbus. "She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what's in her head about those missing years."
It also raises the question if the actors involved would be interested in taking on such an undertaking. A franchise such as that one had to be a large commitment, and many of them are already far removed from those character roles.
