'Hannibal' Season 3 Spoilers: New Season to Borrow Heavily from Novels, Movies [VIDEO]
Even as the highly anticipated psychological thriller-horror television series 'Hannibal' returns to NBC for its third season on June 4, the showrunners have announced that the upcoming series will not only have an entirely new setting, but will also draw heavily from the author Thomas Harris' novels.
For the uninitiated, apart from being based on the extremely popular movie franchise that started with 'Silence of the Lambs' in 1991, NBC's 'Hannibal' is also based on the anthology of novels, which conceived the character of the Hannibal Lecter for the first time. Quoting Entertainment Weekly, IB Times reports that 'Hannibal' Season 3 will be drawing various elements from stories like "Red Dragon," "Hannibal" and "Hannibal Rising," which was all made into movies after the resounding success of the 1991 Oscar-winning film.
In 'Hannibal' Season 2, fans witnessed harrowing events, and now the synopsis for the first episode of the third season reveals that it will kick off with Hannibal (portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen) moving through Europe to escape the FBI. The synopsis published in Screen Crush further reveals that the serial killer will continue his old habits in a new setting together with Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson).
Borrowing from the book, "Hannibal," the psychological thriller-horror television series will feature the character Pazzi, which was portrayed by Giancarlo Giannini in the hit 2001 film. In the movie, Razzi becomes suspicious of Hannibal and almost reveals his whereabouts to the FBI. In addition, flashbacks will be used to draw inspiration from the character's original story "Hannibal Rising," wherein he is shown being at home in his native land.
All said and done, 'Hannibal' will not be able to borrow too heavily from its most popular source material, 'Silence of the Lambs,' as The Wrap notes, the show has not been granted the rights to the character Clarice Starling, who has a sizable part of most of the movies.
'Hannibal' Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, June 4, at 10:00 pm EDT on NBC.
