'Hannibal' New Network News: Amazon and Netflix is a No-Go
NBC's recently cancelled 'Hannibal' series may be facing more difficulties to find a new network than previously thought.
Showrunner Bryan Fuller recently suggested that the show may find hope on either Amazon or Netflix, but he has since confirmed that both options won't work.
"While the chances of a Netflix pickup always seemed remote, Hannibal executive producer Bryan Fuller took to Twitter today to say that Amazon also has passed on picking up the series. Holding exclusive streaming rights to past and current seasons of the show, Amazon did look to many to be a natural home for more of the series based on Thomas Harris' novels," writes Deadline.
It was speculated that the networks turned down taking in 'Hannibal' due to Fuller's obligations to his upcoming STARZ series 'American Gods.'
"Despite Amazon holding exclusive streaming rights, Fuller already has segued to his next series, Starz's American Gods. The producer has said he remains committed to Hannibal, but a possible fourth season has to wait for him to finish the recently ordered first season of the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's bestseller. That scheduling issue was a very big factor in Amazon's passing on more Hannibal, sources tell me. With American Gods starting to ramp up, Fuller wouldn't be available for more than a year to dig into more Hannibal - a timespan Amazon was not willing to wait out," writes Deadline.
There's also the issue of the actors' contracts becoming expired, giving them options to appear on different television series.
Fuller is currently still looking for a home for the show stuck in limbo.
