Gwyneth Paltrow Relationship News: Actress Files for Divorce From Chris Martin, Seeks Joint Custody of Their Children

A year after announcing their "conscious uncoupling," Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Chris Martin, have filed for divorce. As for the reason of their break up, Paltrow cited irreconcilable differences and listed their date of separation as May 6th, 2013.

Paltrow is also seeking to have joint custody of their two children, Apple, 10, and Moses, 9.

The court documents, which were obtained by the Los Angeles times on April 21st, also state that Paltrow requested that spousal support be determined at a future time, as both parties are currently paying their own lawyer's fees.

Since their separation, Paltrow and Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, have maintained an amicable relationship, going on vacations together with their kids and more.

In January, during an interview with Howard Stern, Paltrow stated that the conscious coupling of she and her husband was just as hard as any break up and that it takes a lot of work.

She stated that the two tried to separate without being bitter for the sake of their children, and have accepted that they will always be a family, so they try to find positive things to focus on in order to maintain a functional friendship.

She also stated that they have been able to salvage a really strong friendship, although there are times when they do not want to be in one another's company.

She said that at times like these, they will hang out for the sake of the children, but try to minimize tension by searching for forgiveness and dedicating themselves to having fun for the sake of the family. In an interview last July, Martin corroborated Paltrow's statements.
