'Guitar Hero Live' Release Date, News: New Revamped Music Game to Arrive on Xbox One & PS4 This Fall [VIDEO]
Activision has just announced that 'Guitar Hero Live' will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this fall and the music video game developed by FreeStyleGames will be available for $99. A trailer from Harmoix shows that 'Guitar Hero Live' is new to the music rhythm game franchise, but unfortunately for 'Guitar Hero' fans, their old guitars from the previous games will not be functional for the upcoming game.
According to IB Times, the trailer is testimony to the fact of the extent to which the publisher Activision has improved this favorite game series. Real-life rock stars have replaced the cartoonish characters that appeared some five years ago. In the trailer, real-life rock stars are seen performing in front of live audiences.
Taling to IGN on Tuesday, 'Guitar Hero Live' creative director Jamie Jackson said, "We thought of it as a clean slate," adding, "One of the briefs I gave the team early on was to think of it just as a name. Think of it as a music game with a guitar peripheral, but pretend that nothing else has ever been done. We want to come back with some big innovation and to do that we almost felt like we needed to start from scratch."
However, the basics of the new game remain the same. It comprises a plastic guitar equipped with buttons and a fretboard used by players to accompany a song. The fundamental shape as well as weight of the guitar is also similar. In fact, the new game also comes with a "hero power" button.
While Activision has yet to release the playlist of the game, fans already know that 'Guitar Hero Live' will include songs from The Black Keys, Ed Sheeran, Green Day, The Killers, The Lumineers, Skrillex, The Rolling Stones, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and more.
The previous 'Guitar Hero' installment titled 'Warriors of Rock' was released almost five years ago, in late September 2010 and it featured 93 punk, alternative rock as well as classic rock songs. The game was released on the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
However, the report says that the sales of the title were disappointing, as only 86,000 units were sold in the United States across all platforms in its first week. As a result, Activision closed its 'Guitar Hero' business in February 2011, together with its planned sequel.
