‘Guitar Hero Live’ New DLC News: Activision Steps Away from Traditional Downloadable Content Packs

As the latest addition to the 'Guitar Hero' franchise is making its way toward its release date, details about what's going to come with it has been making headlines. For now, the reports are saying that Activision and developer Freestyle Games are moving away from DLC in the traditional sense.

At first this concept might be confusing for gamers as regular DLC is all they've been accustomed to over the years. However, looking a bit deeper into what the developers are trying to do, an interesting idea is presented.

What the company is proposing is DLC content will be presented in an on demand type format. 'Guitar Hero Live' will let players join channels organized by people instead of static and automated playlists. Beyond that, players can expect to rack up in-game currency to use when trying playing on-demand songs.

Players will receive some in-game currency at the start of the game and receive more over time, by ranking up or performing well. According to an interview done by Game Informer, 'Guitar Hero Live' creative director Jamie Jackson said, "Music discovery is a big pillar for GHTV, and we're going to keep adding new content on an ongoing basis, so you'll always have new music and new shows to explore."

He went on to say, "You'll start off with access to hundreds of songs, and there will be many more on the way. It's a living, breathing platform, which means we can bring people the music they want a lot faster than in previous games."

Beyond all that, some of the other features gamers can expect is that they'll be able to buy the game via CD, however, they're going to need an Internet connection to play. Last but not least, for fans that may not know, 'Guitar Hero Live' is set to release on October 20, 2015.
