'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Movie News, Spoilers: Captain Marvel Will Not Appear in the Film?
Recently, director James Gunn took to his Twitter handle to announce that no one should right away assume that he favors a male superhero over a female one. This soon gave rise to speculations that Carol Danvers, alias Captain Marvel, may feature in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2.' However, such rumors were soon dismissed.
Christian Today reports that soon after Gunn's first tweet, he again tweeted to firmly confirm that 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' will not feature Captain Marvel.
In 2014, Marvel Studios confirmed that Captain Marvel would a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially. Hence, it is likely that Gunn is simply not allowed to make any announcement regarding the inclusion of the character 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2.'
Other possibilities include Captain Marvel appearing in the film, but not as Captain Marvel, or not called so. According to the report, Phyla-Vell, daughter of the male Captain Marvel also took up the role of a superhero in the source material, but she was called Quasar.
The tweets by Gunn suggest that his favorite superhero will appear in the sequel. But now that Captain Marvel has been ruled out, there are just a few options that could fit into the Marvel universe which Gunn and Marvel created together for the silver screen.
Some fans of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise have been speculating that Gunn is referring to the character of Moondragon. In fact, it would make a better fit considering that Moondragon is Drax's daughter and was apparently killed by the villain in the first film.
Speculations on some websites like IGN and Screenrant say that Gunn may be hinting at Adam Warlock. This character appeared in the first film of the franchise, but in his cocoon form. Now fans are speculating that the character might have "hatched" and may play a key role in the sequel.
Meanwhile, a solo 'Captain Marvel' film is slated for release on November 2, 2018.
