'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News: James Gunn Talks Sequel at Saturn Awards
'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' will serve to reunite fans with the unsung Marvel heroes of the intergalactic world, and while it is still a good ways off until its release, director James Gunn has not been bashful with speaking on its development.
From what fans can tell, Gunn has some special things planned for the sequel, and while he's confirmed that he's finished penning the script he's very careful with dropping any vital details.
At the Saturn Awards last week, the director was prompted to speak a bit on the movie, in where he did confirm that it will be a very different move than the first.
"I think it's a more emotional movie," Gunn said. "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters."
He also claims 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' will serve to expand the Marvel mythology. This may not only mean the introduction of new characters, but crossovers with existing ones.
"We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie," Gunn added.
The last time the director was seen sharing details was on the Periscope app where he got to directly speak with fans.
"In terms of details on the upcoming sequel, Gunn wasn't too specific, but he touched on how the tone would be different, that the script was quite far along and that Karen Gillan's character, Nebula, would return for the sequel. He also talked about the original pic during the stream, saying that he didn't have a hard time toning down the violence in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" and confirming that pictures of his dog's teeth were used to help design Rocket Racoon's own dental work," writes Variety.
'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' premieres in theaters in 2017.
