'Guardians Of The Galaxy' 2 Release Date, Plot: Star Lord’s Father, Main Villain Casted, Expected To Hit Theaters Next Year?

Gunn's Marvel Comics film sequel "Guardians and the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is hitting theaters next year and in line with this, new details have been unveiled.

Gunn revealed on Jan. 29 that the roles of Star Lord's father, as well as the big bad of the film sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" had been cast; however, the actors whose names are attached to the role are yet to be revealed. According to Den of Geek, it was also mentioned that the start of filming is unlikely to be far from now.

Also in mid-January, Gunn took to Instagram a photo of the film script. It is noted that the green draft was completed on Jan. 10, after the white, blue, pink, and yellow drafts he prepared in 2015. In caption, Gunn wrote, "So this is what happens when you take your brain between your hands and wring out its every last juice. Being sent out now."

On Jan. 26, Gunn took to his Instagram account another image showing how he "fixed" Christ Pratt's name to "Qris Prat." In caption, the director wrote, "Table read this morning for #GotGVol2. Somebody spelled @prattprattpratt's name wrong so I fixed it."

Gunn also showed fans some rehearsals with Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu Udonta, and his brother Sean, who plays Kraglin, in the film. Even his dog Von Spears had an appearance.

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" director also cited a reason behind the title of his Marvel Comics film sequel. On Jan. 29, Gunn tweeted that he had called the film "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2" because "Guardians of the Galaxy: Dusk of the Rising Shadows" is a "paragraph." Whatever he meant about it, it is yet to be revealed with more clarity.

"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" serves as he sequel to Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2013. The film stars Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Benicio Del Toro, Kurt Russell, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt, among others.

With Gunn at the helm of the film, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning are on board to help writing the film screenplay.

Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is set to be released in theaters in the United States on May 5, 2017.
