'GTA 6' Release Date News, Rumors: Online Game Success Pushing Sequel Back Until 2018?
Rockstar's decision to venture online has contributed to the skyrocketing sales for "GTA 5," but the developer could be a victim of its own success as sales just don't give the incentive to rush the release date for the "Grand Theft Auto 6."
Just by offering add-ons and other customizable features, Rockstar has earned about $500 million from micropurchases, according to the news and rumors.
"In January alone, Rockstar's (online-and-off) crime simulator outsold last fall's heavyweights Star Wars Battlefront, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege and Fallout 4," End Gadget reported. "And it handily beat out Lego Marvel Avengers, which released last month and sits near the bottom of the sales charts."
N4BB noted that the success of the GTA online "will likely influence" the release date of "Grand Theft Auto 6."
But there's a bit of good news, as Rockstar is likely not going to drop the off-line sequel, "Grand Theft Auto 6," even with the successful online purchase model for the fifth installment in the franchise.
"According to recent GTA 6 news and updates, the highly anticipated game might just be released alongside the launch of the equally highly anticipated gaming consoles - Sony's Playstation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Two," it said.
The bad news, however, is that "Grand Theft Auto 6" won't be released until two or three years from now, which is still a long wait for die-hard fans.
A website dedicated to any news related to "Grand Theft Auto 6" analyzed the release dates for each of the past titles, and theorized that the Rockstar will probably announce the launch of the game in 2018.
