GTA 5 Release Date September 17, First Official Gameplay Trailer Released by Rockstar [VIDEO]

Weeks ago we had our first look at the new Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox One. Now gaming company Rockstar just released their first official gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5. They even set a September 17 release date.

For GTA 5, the company has reinvented the game's environment in several ways. As the trailer notes, "mountains and oceans, expensive stores and strip malls, urban decay and untouched wilderness, beaches and backwoods," will make up their version of Southern California.

For the first time in franchise history, the game will center around 3 main characters, as opposed to just one. Each character will have there own special features.

Michael is an ex-bank robber who has been in hiding as part of witness protection. Turns out old habits die-hard and he wants to get back in the game. Michael also has the bullet time feature, allowing players to take down targets in a slowed down state.

Living in a trailer, Trevor used to be a military pilot but is now a degenerate drug addict. Trevor also has an "extra damage" mode similar to the hardened feature in Call of Duty.

Lastly, Franklin does repo work for an Armenian car company. He can also drive a car in slow motion.

In GTA 5, players will actually get to change in between the three storylines almost any time they choose. Obviously certain game sequences won't allow it, but for the most part access to the three characters seems...well, pretty seemless.

Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto 5 would be available right away for the PS3 and Xbox 360. No word on PC and Wii release. As for online content, Rockstar will confirm more details as the September 17 release date approaches.
