Following Meredith's shocking hookup with Riggs in the previous season, it looks like Owen should prepare for a much bigger surprise in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13.

Owen does not know anything yet about the real score between Meredith and Riggs, and everyone knows how this will come as a really bad surprise for him. It can be recalled that Owen and Riggs had a complicated relationship before, and season12 saw the two characters always at odds with each other.

Fans speculate that while Owen is already trying to move on from their dispute and let go of his grudges against Riggs, there is a chance for him to relapse into the hostility mold once he learns of his ongoing affair with Meredith. There are speculations that Owen will do his best to be protective of Meredith this time, especially since it is Riggs who is involved.

Owen is like a brother to Meredith since he was close friends with her late husband Derek. It is possible that in the next season, he will try to keep him away from her and try his best to cut their affair.

It can also be recalled that Riggs previously had an affair with Megan, Owen's sister, who died in a helicopter ride while she was trying to get away from him. While Riggs did not kill her, Owen felt that he was the one accountable for her death. This pretty much explains why learning about his hookup with Meredith might be difficult for him to digest.
