'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers: Shonda Rhimes Looks to Replace Late Dr. Derek Shepherd

'Grey's Anatomy' writer Shonda Rhimes is currently looking for a "name" actor to portray the character of a new male doctor in Season 12 of the medical drama show with a view to fill in the void left by the untimely death of Dr. Derek Shepherd.

In fact, Rhimes is searching for an actor who would be in his late 30s or early 40s, handsome, charismatic and would be doing a convincing job in the role of a surgeon.

Christian Today quotes cast member Jerrika Hinton, who portrays Stephanie in 'Grey's Anatomy,' saying that it's time for some minor changes. Following the departure of several actors from the long-running medical drama, including Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh, it seems that a newbie at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is necessary for the show.

In an interview with Vibe, Hinton said, "I think it involves a lot of recalibrating. You mourn the loss and unfortunately in both of those cases, internally as a family, we knew it was going to happen, and we got to have our grieving process with the people while they were there."

The actor who will manage to grab the role will be a series regular automatically. Some reports claim that the chances are that an Asian actor will portray the role. While there is still no news regarding the progress of Rhimes' eventual search for a McDreamy-material substitute, by now fans are convinced that this newbie, whoever he will be, may possibly turn out to be Meredith's new love interest.

In the meantime, fans will be see Ben a lot in 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12. Jason George, who portrays Ben, was recently promoted to series regular. In fact, he broke the news himself via Twitter and thanked Rhimes for the elevation.

However, as of now, the future of Ben in the series is not clear. According to Zap2it, he will be around more now that his wife Bailey is running for Chief of Surgery.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 will premiere on ABC in the fall.
