Since Katherine Heigl left Grey's Anatomy in 2010, fans have been wondering whether she would ever return to the series, and hoping that the answer would be "Yes."

After the death of Derrick Shepherd on the show, which meant the departure of star Patrick Dempsey, the show's twelfth season, premiering this fall, may seem as good a time as any to bring back some familiar faces.

On June 22nd, Katherine Heigl spoke on the rumors about whether or not audiences could expect to see her when Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC this fall.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Heigl stated that there is absolutely no truth to the rumors that Izzie will be in the new season of the medical drama.

She added "I'm sorry," onto her response, likely aware that she was crushing the dreams of several fans.

Although there are no current plans, it is possible that she may return to the series.

However, that possibility is very slight, based on Heigl's response when asked whether she had any interest in returning to the show. "I think that... I don't know how to answer that, I'm sorry," said Heigl.

The answer, which seem quite awkward, does nothing to dispel the rumors that Heigl left the show because of tension between herself and lead actress, Ellen Pompeo, and show creator, Shonda Rhimes.

Whatever the case may be, Heigl is clearly grateful for the time that she did spend on the show. "It's been this incredible thing," she explained.
