'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Spoilers: Ellen Pompeo Speaks Out About Derek Shepherd’s Death
Fans of Grey's Anatomy are still struggling to regain control after the death of Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd on last week's episode of the series. So far, Ellen Pompeo has not made a statement about the death of her television husband.
In a recent statement however, she addresses Dempsey's exit from the show as well as how her character plans to move on after losing her husband so suddenly.
The 45 year old actress posted a note directed towards her fans on Twitter, beginning "I have always said what keeps me going is the fans. Knowing we move you and inspire you. There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy - husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children."
Pompeo went on to say that she will be dedicating her performance on the show, following the death of Derek, to those fans who are also dealing with the loss of a loved one.
She stated that people get up and do what feels like it is impossible, fighting through the emotional pain caused by tragedy. She concludes by inviting fans to join her on her journey as Meredith picks up the pieces.
Many fans are having a really difficult time accept the death of Derek, also called McDreamy. Some of the fans of the show have even been signing a petition which demands that Shonda Rhimes, the show's creator, bring back his character by rewriting his death scene as a dream or hallucination.
A special two hour episode of Grey's Anatomy aired on Thursday, following the aftermath of Derek's death.
