Last Thursday, fans of Grey's Anatomy were very upset over the passing of Derek Shepherd. Shortly after the character's death, Shonda Rhimes, the show's creator and Patrick Dempsey, the actor portraying him both released their statements on the matter.

Now Ellen Pompeo, who plays Shepherd's wife, Meredith Grey on the hit television series, is speaking on the shocking plot twist.

Pompeo expressed extreme gratitude to fans of the show in a long Twitter message on Monday, and also said that she was excited about the continuation of Meredtih Grey's journey and the new stories that must be told now that the untimely death of her husband has taken place.

"...It is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible. I hope you will all join me on her journey. With gratitude and respect, Ellen," concluded the actress.

Dempsey made an attempt to calm agitated fans who are still not able to accept the death of his character. On Saturday, he composed the following tweet: "I want to thank all of the fans, what an incredible 11 years, I love you all."

The 22^nd episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 11 is called "She's Leaving Home," and focuses on Derek Shepherd's memorial service. Stay tuned to see how Meredith picks up the pieces. On that note, Episode 22 airs this Thursday on ABC.
