'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Finale Recap: Derek's Shocking Return to the Series

For those that may not have known, the eleventh season of Grey's Anatomy ended this week. While the season came to quiet a calm ending, in comparison to all of the shocking twists and turns throughout the rest of it, there was a shocking appearance made by Derek Shepherd.

The scene, featuring Patrick Dempsey's character, came in the form of a flashback during a voicemail message, and while it did not meet the demands of fans who wanted Derek to come back to life, it had to feel good to feel his presence on screen once more.

The finale began with Meredith, played by Ellen Pompeo, trying to decide whether she would be keeping or selling her and Derek's house.

She also convinced Alex to talk to Jo about moving back into her old house.

Jo preferred that she and Alex sell their house back to Meredith and move into the loft. Meanwhile, April confessed to Jackson that she would like to go on another tour of duty.

Jackson gave her his blessing, but he did tell her that he would not wait for her while she was away.

In an effort to help her sister in law, Amelia, get some closure after Derek's death, Meredith let her hear an old voicemail that he had left her before his death.

While Amelia listened to the voicemail, she held Owen's hand, and that is when we see Derek again. From his surroundings, it seems he left the message while on a ferry.

During the episode, we also see Bailey potentially becoming the next chief of surgery.

The episode ends on a good not, with Meredith enjoying the company of her friends and family.
