‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 Spoilers: Showrunner Teases New Romance for Callie and Arizona
Shonda Rhimes, the mastermind behind the long-running medical drama television series 'Grey's Anatomy' on ABC, recently told at the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour that viewers may expect another break-up in Season 12 of the series.
A report in IB Times quotes the showrunner as saying that April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) will be parting ways in the upcoming installment of 'Grey's Anatomy.' However, simply because 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 will begin with some sadness it does not suggest that audiences should not expect new romances!
Rhimes revealed that there will "definitely [be] some new romances" for both Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) woven right through the Season 12 plot. Now it remains to be seen whether the former lovers will be rekindling their relationship in the fall.
TVLine reported in June that Capshaw's contract, which ended in May, was extended for another three seasons. This made Calzona fans speculate if the doctors would be getting back together following their surprising separation in Season 11. Nevertheless, in March, Capshaw revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she was hoping her and Ramirez's character wouldn't rebound into their unsteady relationship so quickly.
Capshaw further told the publication, "Only because they had to go through so much to make that decision to be apart, it's so hard to think about them being together. They're just getting to the point where that's all good. I would feel bad if they then took steps backwards and ended up in a relationship that was super challenging." She added that she understands why fans are as devoted to the two characters as a couple. "Everyone longs for the beginning, I get that, you want them to go back to the beginning, but you can't do that with anything in life," the actress remarked.
'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 is scheduled to premiere on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m.
