'Grammy Awards' 2016 Nominations: Candidates Revealed, Kendrick Lamar Grabs 11 Nominations?

The candidates for the 58th Grammy Awards have been revealed, according to some reports.

According to Rolling Stone, the big four categories are not filled up with any major explosive surprises; however, the nominations for this year included unexpected names in unfamiliar categories.

California's American hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar reportedly dominated the year and topped the list of the 50 Best Albums of 2015, which led to his 11 nominations. Lamar grabs various nominations, such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and recognitions in different rap categories.

Lamar is also known for his appearance on Taylor Swifts' "Bad Blood" and Flying Lotus' "Never Catch Me." Some of his recent songs include "King Kunta," "Alright," "I," "The Blacker the Berry," and "Wesley's Theory."

For the best dance recording, Grammy voters chose "Galantis" to revive main-stage EDM by nominating the feast staple "Runaway (U&I), together with tracks by trance titans like "Never Catch Me," "We're All We Need," "Where Are You Now," and "Go," as per Billboard.

In the best dance/ electronic album category, the nominees included "Our Love," "Born In The Echoes," "Caracal," "In Color," and "Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack."

According to some reports, DJ Snake outperformed Meghan Trainor across the board, although both artists had three Hot 100 charting singles. Nonetheless, Grammy voters still consider cultural impact as one of the key elements in their choices.

While the Recording Academy may have dodged humiliation in 2016, it is showing its age by pushing through various past genres in primary categories in exchange of the electronic movement which gives definition to the music culture of the younger generation.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on Feb. 15, 2016 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
